Getting Started — Your First 30 Minutes on Fluger
Welcome to Fluger. This article walks you through the first 30 minutes — creating your first channel, adding content, branding it, and getting it in front of viewers. By the time you're done, you'll have a working channel that anyone on the internet can watch.
You don't need to do all of this today. Skip the parts you don't need yet. Each step links to a deeper article if you want the full mechanics.
What Fluger does, in one paragraph
Fluger lets you launch your own branded streaming channel — pre-recorded video, scheduled programming, or live broadcasts — and reach viewers on web, Roku, Fire TV, and iOS. Your audience watches your content under your name on your apps, not buried inside someone else's platform. You upload (or go live), and we handle the playback, the apps, the scheduling, the embedding, and the audit trail.
What you'll need
- A Fluger account. If you're reading this, you probably already have one. If not, sign up at fluger.tv/registration — free, no card.
- Some content to share. A video file, a YouTube link, a Vimeo link, a live stream from your phone — anything works. You can start with one video and add more later.
- About 30 minutes the first time. Most of it is one-time channel setup; after that, adding new content takes seconds.
Step 1 — Create your first channel
From the My Channels dashboard, click the + button next to "My Channels". A dialog opens asking for:
- A channel name (what viewers see)
- A description (a sentence or two)
- A channel URL slug (the public address, e.g.
fluger.tv/page/your-slug) - A channel type — Linear (TV-style, plays continuously on a schedule) or VOD (viewers pick videos from a library)
- A channel image
If you're not sure whether to pick Linear or VOD, see Linear vs VOD Channels. Most customers run both eventually — you can create a second channel later.
Full mechanics: Create a new TV channel.
Step 2 — Add your first video (or go live)
Inside your new channel, click Add Video. You'll see a picker with six content sources:
- YouTube — search YouTube and add a video by URL
- Vimeo — same, but for Vimeo
- Custom HLS / MP4 — add a video by direct URL
- Upload Video — upload an MP4 from your computer (stored in our CDN)
- From my library — pick from videos you've already uploaded to your account
- Upload from Dropbox — bulk-import videos from a Dropbox folder
If you'd rather go live than upload, there's a seventh option: Live stream (RTMP). That lets you broadcast directly from OBS, Streamlabs, Larix Broadcaster, or any RTMP encoder — phone, tablet, or laptop. Full setup is in Live Streaming with RTMP. (RTMP is on the Premium plan.)
Once you've added at least one video, your channel has content and can be played.
Full video-upload mechanics: Video upload.
Step 3 — Brand your channel
Open Brand Settings from the top-right menu. This is where you set the colors, fonts, and logo that show up across your channel's playback pages, your TV apps, and your public page.
You can also override settings per-channel from the channel's Settings sidebar item — useful if you have multiple channels with different visual identities.
Full mechanics: Brand settings.
Step 4 — Share it with the world
You have three ways to get viewers to your channel. You can use all three at the same time — they don't conflict.
Your public page
Every channel comes with a built-in public page at fluger.tv/page/<your-slug>. Share that URL anywhere — social, email, a QR code on a flyer. Viewers click and watch, no signup required.
Details: Public page.
Embed on your own website
Use the Embed channel option in your channel sidebar to get a ready-made iframe snippet you can paste into your own site.
Details: Embed channel to website.
Publish a branded TV app
From TV Apps in the top-right menu, generate a Roku or iOS app for your channel. The apps come out under your name and brand — viewers find them in the Roku Channel Store or App Store and tap to install.
Details: TV Apps.
Step 5 — Watch your usage and analytics
Two pages tell you how your channel is doing:
- Usage — storage, bandwidth, and live-streaming consumption against your plan limits
- Analytics — who's watching, what they're watching, how long, from where
Both are linked from the top-right menu. Check Usage when you're worried about hitting limits; check Analytics when you want to see what's working.
What's next
Once your first channel is live, here are the most common next moves:
- Add more videos or schedule recurring content — see Create a Schedule & Automate It for Linear channels.
- Invite teammates to help manage the channel — see Channel collaboration for the granular-permission system.
- Charge for access — see Monetization for ads, subscriptions, and pay-per-view.
- Go live from your phone — see Live Streaming with RTMP (Premium).
- Earn credits by referring others to Fluger — see Referral Program.
